MIT Gymnastics Club

MIT_gym.jpg Welcome to the website of the MIT Gymnastics Club! We are a club gymnastics team open to any and all interested MIT Affiliates (students, faculty, staff/employees, and alumni) who would like to do gymnastics at MIT, no experience necessary. For more information on eligibility for participation in club sports, please see here. In addition to those requirements, you must have access to the Z Center through either a membership or pass. You can follow us on social media here:

How to Join

There are two ways of participating the club-- through the class, or through the team. Read through the descriptions to decide which is best for you, and if you have specific questions that aren't answered below, email us at gymnastics-officers@mit.edu.

Class

  • For: People with little to no gymnastics experience and who are looking for a fun start to the sport
  • When: Every Tuesday 5:00-7:00pm of the fall semester, except holidays
  • What: This is an instructional class, where experienced team members will lead a group warm up, follwed by two 40 minute sessions focused on a specific gymnastics apparatus (which one varies from class to class), ending with some light stretching
  • To join: Fill out this waiver (scroll to "Gymnastics" and then click "Registration"). Additionally, this class has a cost of $5 per session. If you switch from the class to the team, all class fees will be put towards your first team membership fee. All team members are welcome to attend the class for free.
  • Team

    • For: People who are excited to learn the fundamentals and progressions of gymnastics from teammates and coaches. Additionally, be comfortable with predominantly self guided practices, either through past experience or taking at least one of our beginner classes.
    • When: every day from 5-7:30pm, with Tuesdays going until 9 and addtional practice on Saturday morning from 10-12:30
    • What: We have a fully functional gymnastics facility with all six men’s apparatuses and all four women’s apparatuses. Our facility also contains numerous training apparatuses, including a tumbl-trak and tumble strip into a resi pit, a trampoline and a strap bar. We generally host two meets a season, and travel to compete in 4-6 meets per season (but competing is not mandatory). Additionally, each year the team travels to compete at NAIGC nationals (travel costs reimbursed relative to attendance over the course of the academic year). We have four superb coaches who are each in the gym one to two days a week, and many experienced gymnasts who can help you take your gymnastics to the next level.
    • To join: Fill out this waiver (scroll to "Gymnastics" and then click "Registration", then either fill out the form below or email us at gymnastics-officers@mit.edu. Team members pay dues twice each year - once to cover the school year, and once for the summer. School year dues are as follows:
      • $75 for new members
      • $150 for non-new member students
      • $250 for non-new member non-students

Please note: we do not control access to the gym for any other activities. If you are interested in utilizing the space or equipment you'll need to reach out to DAPER or Club Sports directly.

If you are not an MIT affiliate but still want to do adult gymnastics in the Boston area:

    • If you’re looking for an open gym/class: GymStreet in Wilmington offers open gyms with coaches available for tips and advice.
    • If you’re interested in competing for an adult team: check out Jurassic Gymnastics (which also practices out of the MIT gym), but please note that they don't accept new members from October through the end of March.
    • If you're interested in getting into gymnastics but don't have any/much experience and/or don't want to compete: check out Everybody Gymnastics (which also practices out of the MIT gym).
